ANAESTHETICS JOBS IN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

Anaesthetics or Anaesthesiology in Australia and New Zealand is progressive, highly developed and has some of the highest practice standards in the world. There has been a huge investment in Anaesthesia facilities recently, resulting in most hospitals in Australia and New Zealand having access to the latest equipment.

Being at the forefront of the Anaesthetics world, Australia and New Zealand can offer unique challenges and opportunities for permanent and locum doctors at all levels of experience.

ANAESTHETICS JOBS INCLUDE:

  • General Anaesthesia

  • Paediatric Anaesthesia

  • Obstetric Anaesthesia

  • Cardiac Anaesthesia

  • Neuro-Anaesthesia

  • ICU Cover

  • Pain Management Clinics

There is an ongoing requirement for Anaesthetists in Australia and New Zealand, due to both the expanding roles of the Anaesthetist (many Intensive Care Units and pain services are now Anaesthetist-led) and also the growth in the number of perioperative procedures performed.

Most Anaesthetists in FTE roles work 38 to 40 hour weeks, and there is usually some on-call requirement. In Australia and New Zealand, Anaesthetists are usually employed to cover theatre and a pain service, whilst Intensive Care (ICU) is usually covered by a separate group of Intensivists (who are commonly of an anaesthetic background). It is extremely unusual for Anaesthetists to be required to look after both ICU and operating theatres.
