SURGERY JOBS IN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
Surgical departments in both Australia and New Zealand have been the subject of worldwide praise for revolutionary findings and ground-breaking procedures developed and performed successfully, leading to well-deserved recognition for some of Australasia's top surgeons.
This, combined with an increased interest from doctors both locally and overseas, has led to a rise in the amount of funded surgical research being undertaken and has firmly placed Australasia at the forefront of the surgical world.
SURGERY JOBS INCLUDE SUBSPECIALTIES SUCH AS:
Colorectal Surgery
ENT Surgery
Gastrointestinal Surgery
General Surgery
Neurosurgery
Ophthalmology
Oral-Maxillio Facial Surgery
Orthopaedic/Trauma Surgery
Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery
Urology
Vascular Surgery
As a rule, most hospital-based surgical teams in Australia consist of a Consultant Specialist with Registrar and SHO (Resident) support. The SHO generally performs the majority of the ward work, whilst the Consultant and Registrar usually cover the operating theatre, outpatient clinics and emergency surgical admissions.
Elective surgery in Australia is shared between the public and private systems, with approximately 55% of all operations being performed in the private sector. In New Zealand, however, elective surgery is mostly performed in the public sector with only around 12% of operations being performed privately.
Many of the subspecialised permanent and locum Surgery jobs in Australia and New Zealand require a General Surgery component, though standalone specific subspecialist roles do exist. Improvements in regional hospital facilities over recent years have resulted in some exiting, unique and financially rewarding locum opportunities becoming available for Surgeons interested in exploring roles outside of major cities.
